The Shotgun Skills course is aimed at anyone wishing to take part in clay shooting or game shooting, to acquire a gun, or novices who have recently acquired a shotgun.
The course covers personal and range safety, shotgun types and use, cartridges and chokes. There is also a practical session on the CPSA method of shooting. The course includes loan guns (if required), ear protection, eye protection, all clays and cartridges.
The course is open to both members and non-members of the CPSA.
Under the CPSA banner, our Professional Shooting Instructors and Coaches have a convenient modular programme of training with which to progress clients from beginner to proficiency in the discipline of their choice.
Shotgun Skills Programme Modules
Module 1 - Discover Clay Target Shooting
Includes a briefing on safety for Clay and Game shooting, personal protection equipment, basic gun handling skills and how to hit a moving target.
Module 2 – Shotgun Skills
Detailed introduction with a theory session covering safety, gun handling, eye dominance, gun fit, mount, stance and the CPSA Method of hitting a moving target.
Learn about types of Shotguns, Cartridges, Chokes, Proof, Shotguns and the Law, Personal civil liability Insurance and Gun Cleaning.
Module 3 (Level 2 Coach) – Advanced Shotgun Skills
Learn to shoot "Gun Down" use a variety of methods "Swing Through" "Maintained Lead" "Cut Off" and "Spot" to evaluate and understand appropriate use and execution of these various methods of shooting targets.
Module 4 (Level 2 Coach) – Discipline Proficiency
A progressive and flexible programme to introduce students to all aspects of their chosen discipline; from rules to developing skills and techniques to improve scores.
Students can receive recognition of their achievement so once each module is successfully completed you may be awarded a CPSA produced badge and/or certificate (depending on the module completed).
Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.
Modules 1 and 2 are suited to candidates who are learning Clay Target Shooting as their Skill for Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme for Bronze, Silver and Gold.
