HALES WINS SILVER AND QUOTA PLACE AT WORLD CHAMPS

It’s a World Championship silver for Nathan Hales in Osijek.

The result means that the 26-year-old Olympic Trap shooter from Kent also secured Team GB’s third quota place for shooting at Paris 2024.

With top-four winning quota places, Hales went into the final knowing he’d already won Men’s Trap’s first quota, but he kept his composure to go on to win silver.

After missing four in the opening three rounds of qualification, Nathan was exceptional in the final two rounds hitting 50 straight, and proceeded into the first semi-final ranking match after finishing fifth with a score of 121. He topped the semi-final match with a score of 22.

"I don't think it's sunk in yet, but I'm very happy and a little bit emotional. To have missed out at the Europeans on back number but then done the job here is a great feeling.

"Qualification wasn't the easiest for me, I shot 23 and two 24's to start but then I shot 50 straight at the end, so it put me well back in the hunt. In the semi-final, I topped the qualification. I actually thought I was going to go out on 14 but go through and then fought all the way to the end against Derrick."

USA’s Derrick Mein got the golden hit and secured top spot on the podium, with Chinese Taipei’s Kun-Pi Yang winning bronze.

Earlier in the competition, Aaron Heading reached the second semi-final ranking match after finishing qualification in eighth spot with a score of 120, but wasn’t able to proceed to the final after finishing fourth.

GB’s Matthew Coward-Holley finished 91st in qualification with a score of 112.
