6-Person Sportrap Trial
Sportrap (STR) Trial
After Board discussions, and a proposal submitted from High Lodge, it has been decided to allow 6-person squads on Sportrap on a trial basis only until the end of the year.
We see this as a proactive step, to provide its members an extra 20% entries to registered shoots and the British Open Sportrap.
Benefits to the above also include:
Running six person squads, means a whole squad shooting sporting can shoot together alongside STR, plus 2,3 or 4 people shooting together divide into 6 better than 5. Hence reduced single places left over during normal comps and making booking easier.
Enables more shooters through in winter daylight hours when 4 whole squads can be lost normally due to light.
Enables the person starting in stand 1 to view the targets prior to shooting, in line with sporting and making it a fair competition and easier for novice shooters.
The squad could also rotate between layouts so a new person starts each layout. To promote further fairness
The changes would be:-
6 Person squads – with the 6-person positioned behind stand 1 so as to view targets prior to shooting as per ESP
Stand 1 – always starts the shooting sequence. (Instead of currently always shooter 1, which would be fairer as per ESP)
No Stopping of the line to change position, shooters will vacate and move when finished in their stand, positioned behind their new stand to be shot. Whilst not affecting other shooters as per ABT.
This rule change will be on a trial basis only and it will be reviewed at the end of the year (2026). Grounds will still be able to run Sportrap under current rules with 5-person squads in this time if they wish.
