Tony Joannides 1938 - 2021

Tony sadly passed away from a sudden heart attack on 28th October 2021.

Tony Joannides didn't even know the sport of clay pigeon shooting existed until discovering it on the back of a boat in the middle of the North Sea!
Born in Tanzania in April 1936. Tony was a true gentleman who always had time for everyone. After running his own successful pharmaceutical company he retired saying… "I doubt I would have retired from a business, which I also loved, if it wasn't for my insatiable appetite for the sport of clay shooting”.

He went on to shoot his favourite discipline, FITASC, and entered his first major competition, the World Championship at Goodwood where he finished third in the veteran class and repeated
the success the year after.

In 1998 he won the veteran silver medal at the Beretta World Sporting Championship. Tony travelled around the country and world with his wife Betty. He reached his pinnacle in 2002 when he won Gold in the world championships in Germany.

His family feel very grateful to have had as much time as they did with him and know that his memory will forever carry on.

A tribute page was set up and over £1200 was raised for Kent, Sussex & Surrey Air Ambulance Charity in Tony's memory.
