England shooter Joy Hirons has won Sportswomen of the Year in the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards at the weekend.

Hirons, who shoots English Skeet, picked up her award in front of a star-studded audience at Welford Road, the home of Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.

Regarding this fantastic achievement, Joy said "I am so proud to have won, it's a complete shock, but absolutely amazing.

"Leicester City and England striker, Jamie Vardy, won the Sportsman of the Year so as you can see it was a tremendous honour to win my award alongside him.

"The whole room was full of TV celebrities and sporting legends, both past and present, and I was so proud to represent our wonderful sport of clay shooting on such a public platform, alongside all the mainstream sports."

CPSA Chief Executive Nick Fellows commented "It's great that a shooter from a non-Olympic discipline is so highly recognised. Well done Joy!"

The CPSA would like to extend our congratulations to Joy on this highly deserved award.
