36th English Skeet Home International - Auchterhouse Country Sports - 26th & 27th August 2016

events

The 36th English Skeet Home International took place at Auchterhouse in Dundee, Scotland over the 26 and 27 August 2016.   The first day saw 24 squads from 7 different Home Nations take to the skeet ranges in beautiful weather other than a very strong, swirling wind which deceivingly blew nowhere else other than down the back of the trap houses and between the steep imposing banking.   This wind was to become the undoing of most of the competitors on that first day, proving very difficult even for the very best shooters.   At the end of the first day and very unusually there was no one straight, a very rare occurrence at this event and only six people on 99.   The senior team ended the first day tied with Scotland in second place. Wales held a narrow lead of just one point.   The England ladies were comfortably ahead by six after some brilliant shooting from all three, with none of them finishing below 96. New Cap Emily Hibbs shot a fantastic 98 along with Wendy Allen also on 98 and Joy Hirons on 96.   The Veterans and Juniors were also just ahead at the end of the first day but the Super Veterans found themselves with work to do being four clays behind.   By the start of the second day the wind had dropped and the targets were more favourable for all.   The England ladies continued to shoot extremely well and were comfortable winners, along with the Veterans, and Juniors.   The Super Vets were also on real form, pulling back the four target deficit to finish in first position.   The Seniors however left it right down to the wire, slowly pulling in front and finishing just one clay clear of second place Scotland, leaving new Team Manager, Rob Hirons without any nails left!   Overall and Senior High Gun went to England's Andy Parsons who finished on a brilliant 149 ex 150.   Overall Veteran High Gun went to England's Bill Moussalli on 148, whilst overall Junior High Gun went to New Cap, Ben Ludford-Brooks after a shoot off with fellow New Cap, Tom Tristram having both tied on 144.   England Lady High Gun went to Wendy Allen on 147, and   Overall New Cap was won by England's Pete Mylam who finished on 145.
