England shine silver at the ICTSF World DTL Championships!

The England team delivered a strong performance at the 16th ICTSF World Down the Line Championships, held in Christchurch, New Zealand, with standout results across multiple categories.

Despite challenging travel circumstances, England arrived with a full team and quickly established themselves as contenders. After the opening day, the Veterans, Super Veterans and Junior teams were all well placed, setting the tone for a successful campaign.

Day two saw excellent teamwork rewarded, with silver medals secured in all three categories – Veterans, Super Veterans and Juniors. While the Senior and Ladies teams finished just outside the podium places, they played a vital role in supporting their teammates throughout the competition.

Individual performances were led by the Junior squad. Edward Armett delivered an outstanding performance to claim Junior silver with a score of 889/900, also finishing an impressive sixth overall at world level. Teammate Toby Hurstfield produced a superb final round to take first place in A Class, finishing ten points clear of his nearest rival.

In the Super Veteran category, Colin Heathcote demonstrated his experience and composure to secure a well-earned bronze medal, adding to the team’s silver success.

Other notable contributions included strong early scores from Mark Shaw (296), Ian Dougal (294), and Super Veterans Clive Weston and Colin Heathcote (292), which helped position the teams for podium finishes.

New England cap Lewis Dalton also impressed, finishing strongly on the final day of competition.

Away from the World Championships, Sam Winterburn narrowly missed out on the High Gun title at the New Zealand Championships, losing in a shoot-off. David Amos, Team Manager, placed silver in B Class for the same event.

Overall, the England team’s success was driven by a combination of emerging junior talent and experienced competitors, with particular strength in the Junior and Super Veteran categories. Under the leadership of Team Captain John Barnett, the squad delivered a series of performances to be proud of on the world stage.

Congratulations to all the teams and individuals who took part. The next DTL Worlds are in two years time and will be held in Ireland at Esker.
