EO STR & SSP Day 2

The second day of the CPSA English Open Sportrap & Super Sporting brought a shift in conditions, with shooters experiencing a mix of bright sunshine in the morning before heavy downpours set in during the afternoon.

In Sportrap, John Lee initially set the pace with an outstanding 91ex100 - the first score to break the 90 mark this week. Having claimed the Sportrap title in 2025, Lee made a strong start in defence of his crown and set the early benchmark. However, with one of the final squads of the day, Martin Myers went one better to take the lead with an impressive 92ex100.

Over on the Super Sporting layout, Andy Moon and Henry Arnold both delivered excellent rounds of 95ex100. However, they still sit just behind Richard Bunning, whose leading 96ex100 from Day 1 remains unbeaten.

Away from the competition layouts, headline sponsors Baschieri & Pellagri, Eley HawkSWATCOM, PillaStarkey Outdoor, and Browning are all on site, alongside trade partners Caesar Guerini, Beretta, and Zoli, giving shooters plenty to explore between rounds.

There are also two dedicated Have-a-Go stands available for shooters this week - one offering the chance to trial guns and the Aimpoint Acro S-2, and another focused on steel shot testing. Eley are hosting this steel-shot stand throughout the event, providing a great opportunity for shooters to see how steel performs on the clay ground, test and compare cartridges, and build confidence ahead of upcoming changes. It’s a valuable addition to the event and well worth taking advantage of while on site.

The challenging conditions have continued to test all competitors, with strong performances also coming from across the categories. Archie Alexander and Charlie Faulds lead the Juniors both with 91ex100, Kevin Jobling tops the Super Veterans, and George Digweed heads the Veterans leaderboard for today.

With conditions playing a significant role and plenty of competition still to come, all eyes will be on whether the current leaders can hold their positions or if the weather and pressure will open the door for new challengers.
