British Open Sporting & Sportrap 2023 (Day 2)

championships

Day 2 of the CPSA British Open English Sporting and Sportrap had a slightly chillier start with a few spots of rain mid afternoon. Although the wind picked up pace a little in the afternoon, the shooters came off the course happy and there has been a great atmosphere here at Garlands SG today.

The prize draw started the morning, with a live random number generator picking Andrew Morris as the lucky winner of a fantastic set of Teague chokes generously supplied by Teague Precision Chokes,  John Smith 250 Eley cartridges and James Attwood a Browning goody bag, congratulations gentlemen!

Top score on Day 2 on the Sporting was James Attwood with a whopping 116x120. Coming in second Peter Goldsmith, shooting a solid 112x120. Sam Usher, last year's British Open Champion, put in 109x120 - placing him in the top five qualifiers of the day. Will he be able to defend his title in the Final on Sunday ? Young Colt John Porter also shot a very impressive 109x120, while Amy Easeman maintains the highest Sporting Ladies score from yesterday with a 96x120.

Charlotte Kerwood placed the highest for Ladies Sportrap, with 80x100. Philip Bailey and Nigel Hart put in top scores for the day, each with an impressive 93x100. Five shooters placed second with 92s, making for some great shooting on the Sportrap today.

Also, special thanks to John Bidwell and George Digweed MBE for their generous sponsorship of the Colts and Juniors respectively with the top combined scores in their category from the English Open ESP and British Open ESP 2023.

The top five from each class (AAA - C) and top three from the following categories of Senior, Ladies, Veterans, Super Veterans, Juniors & Colts per day will be invited back for the 75 target final on Sunday. With the Disabled Category, it is the top standing score and top sitting score plus the next best score regardless of standing or sitting per day to qualify.

PLEASE NOTE: Given that the competition spans a classification run on 1st September and some competitors may be affected, the following rule will apply:

Where a competition spans a classification implementation date the member will be given the higher of the classifications based on the first day and last day of the competition

What this mean is that if you qualify as an A class shooter but when the classifications take place you go up to AA – then for the finals day, you will shoot as a AA class. The same would apply if you went from A to a B – you would shoot in A class on the finals day as this is the highest class during the competition. For the purpose of qualifying, it will be the class on day of shooting.

The following table shows all who have qualified each day, and are therefore invited back to shoot on Sunday for the 75 Sporting Final.
