English Open Sporting Day 2

championships

The second day of the CPSA English Open English Sporting at Barbury Shooting Ground started with a light breeze which did gradually progress, creating exciting conditions for all shooters at the championship today. Once again Huw and his team had preprepared the ground to perfection, with the Promatic Traps filled and ready for a whole new set of shooters for the second day of this fantastic competition.

When speaking to Huw about the course he said, “We’ve enjoyed the challenge of setting targets for the English Open and hope there is something for all the classes, but with a few stands that are going separate out the winners”. Looking back over the first two days of the competition he added, “It’s gone really well so far, everyone has had positive things to say and it’s nice to welcome so many new shooters to the ground”.

Despite the testing conditions with the drizzle coming down, smiles remained on the shooters as they made their way round the ground. At 1 pm as squads started to finish up after about 2:45 hours around the course, we had some top scores set by AA shooters: 99ex120set by KI Sherratt, followed by a 93ex120 by C Tudor, and a 90ex120 by M Bodfish.

Tony Bromwich from Eley Cartridges, one of our generous sponsors of the Championship said, “it is a delight to be back out shooting and to see everyone after such a long time”, he continued, “although the conditions are a little challenging…it’s great to see people out here enjoying themselves and I wish everyone the best of luck”.

Stand 15 proved an enjoyable stand for all to finish on not only because the lorry shooting deck (which is the first of its kind at any CPSA Championship) provided some cover from the elements; but CPSA Referee Tony Axcell was also sporting a eye-boggling shirt which was an added amusement to the end of everyone round (see above photo for details).

At 3pm James Attwood shot a 105ex120 and Jake Moore shot a 106ex120 placing them at top scorers of the day.

Chloe Applin, a Lady Junior shooter said “It’s a really great course, nice and challenging with something for everyone. We had a few that were a bit tough in the wind, but everyone had the same challenge”. She went on to add “I shot quite well, started off quite strong but towards the end had a little wobble… but was still enjoyable”. Chloe ended on 71ex120.

CPSA Sporting Initiative Shooter Darcy McBride told us “it's a really great layout and I love the targets. Tough conditions in the rain and wind today which is unfortunate but looking forward to seeing the scores that come from today”. Darcy finished on 86ex120.

We are grateful for the generous support of sponsors Rizzini (distributed in the UK by ASI), Eley Cartridges, Swatcom and Musto who have provided guns, cartridges, hearing protection and clothing vouchers respectively as prizes for winners along with addition to the prize fund. We are also grateful for Promatic's support around the ground.
