British Open Sporting Day 1 Report

championships

This year’s six-day long CPSA British Open English Sporting Championship kicked-off today at Oakedge Shooting Ground in Staffordshire.

With the shooting starting just before lunchtime, we seen a total of 121 competitors take part in the 120-target, 15-stand sporting course, as set by The Clay Shooting Company’s managing director Steve Lovatt.

Given this year’s huge demand for entries, an early decision was made to add an extra day on the Tuesday in order to accommodate more competitors. However, with today’s smaller entry, the top three competitors from the classes, and first in each category was invited back to shoot Sunday’s 75-target Super Final for their chance to lift the champions trophy.

A huge congratulations goes to today’s top three; Nicholas Beavis, from Cheshire and Andrew White from Wales, each scoring 113 ex120 and Chris Biddlecombe from Gloucestershire finishing on a 111 ex120.

In the categories, Charlie Lovatt claimed his place in Sunday’s Super Final on a score 64 ex120, in juniors it was Sam Beales leading the way on 75 ex120, in veterans John Sims on 96 ex120, in seniors Ricky Draper on 109 ex120, Nicky Gryspeerdt in ladies on 92 ex120 and Paul Sadler in disabled standing scoring 86 ex120.

With the competition returning to full-form tomorrow, the top five from each class will be entered into the end of week Super Final, along with the top two category winners. Tomorrow also see the start of the British Open Sportrap course, so best of luck to all competitors taking part this forthcoming week.
