West Midlands Shooting Ground is a familiar setting for English Sporting shooters taking part in the British Open Sporting & Sportrap championships which run from August 30 - September 3. The ground played host to the English Open last year and Tom Jones will no doubt put on another thrilling shoot for the final Major Championship of the year.

With demand for entries so popular this year the event sold out in record time and is full to capacity across the five days.

The competition will once again be shot over a 120 target course during the qualification days, with the top five people in each class (AAA, AA, A, B and C) and the top three people in each category (Senior, Ladies, Veterans, Juniors and Colts) per day returning to shoot in Sunday’s final. The sponsored final will take place on a 75 target course, with the top six scores going through to a Super Final to conclude the event.

Tom Jones, who owns West Midlands Shooting Ground with his wife Deb is clearly looking forward to hosting the British Open: “We are delighted to be staging this prestigious event again for 2017, not only holding the 120 English Sporting, but I’m also looking forward to the Sportrap on neighbouring Hawkstone Park Motorcross track. For those who were around shooting back in 1996, you will remember the World Sporting Championships there!”

Last year at High Lodge Mark Winser was crowned British Open champion for the first time in his career to join an illustrious list of previous winners. Mark shoots on Thursday morning as he bids to retain his 2016 title.

Also in action on the Thursday are last year’s Lady High Gun, Hannah Gibson and Paul Simpson - who’ll be looking to follow up his success in the English Open earlier this year.

The event will be kindly supported by Zoli (Edgar Brothers) and Gamebore. The Overall High Gun will win a Zoli-Z Sport High Rib Sporter with 10,000 Gamebore cartridges being shared amongst the category winners.

In addition to this Promatic are providing additional Traps and support staff, whilst CCI Clays are contributing the clays. Starkey Headsets have donated one pair of Pilla Glasses which will be added to a free prize draw for anyone shooting the British Open.

David Scott from Gamebore comments, “Gamebore are looking forward to sponsoring the British open taking place at the glorious West Midland shooting ground. The location offers such a great range of targets in a beautiful setting. It will make for some great shooting and a very exciting contest. We look forward to seeing everyone there. “

Richard Farrimond, Marketing Manager at Edgar Brothers on behalf of Zoli adds, “Edgar Brothers are delighted to be associated with the British Open as we feel that competitions like this underpin the wider efforts of the CPSA to create a national competitive platform, where shooters of all ages and abilities can come together in a fun and friendly environment. This year is no exception, and Zoli are kindly sponsoring the High Gun prize for a fifth year running. The Overall High Gun will have the opportunity to walk away with one of the new Zoli-Z Sport High Rib Sporters, worth over £5,500!”

The British Open Sportrap runs alongside the English Sporting competition from August 30 – September 2. George Digweed took the honours last year after posting an unassailable 96 ex 100 on the first day of the competition. George takes to the course at West Midlands early on the Wednesday this year to once again try and set the benchmark for the competition.
