Guy Franklin Retains Champion of Champions Title

Sussex-based shooter Guy Franklin retained his Champion of Champions title at the 2017 Game Fair at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire on Saturday 29 July.

Having shot 41 ex 50 in the English Sporting qualifier, the 2016 Champion had to go through a closely fought shoot-off to earn his place in the 25 target Sportrap semi-final. Once there he made no mistake in booking his place in the final.

The final was extremely close and ended up going down to the second last clay. With Guy having completed his layout and recording 23 ex 25, local shooter Paul Lovick from Hertfordshire was level before missing his second last target to finish on 22.

It was a sense of déjà vu for Guy, who went on the Viking Cruise holiday along the river Rhine in June – which was the prize he won last year for taking the title.

Whilst away he got engaged to his girlfriend Laura, who was clearly delighted to see him crowned the Champion of Champions for the second year in a row.

Speaking after the victory Guy said, “After I dropped a target on the first layout in the final I didn’t think I would be winning today. I got myself together and ended up shooting well enough to take it.”

He added, “Coming back after winning it last year I was relaxed as I wasn’t expecting to win it two years in a row. It feels great to get my hands on the trophy again and I’m sure we’ll have a little celebration tonight.”

Guy was awarded with a shotgun, kindly donated by ATA Arms, which he received at the Sportsman Gun Centre. The Gun was especially engraved with "The Game Fair 2017, Limited Edition 1 of 5" to add an extra sentiment to the prize.

Henry Collins from Northamptonshire finished runner-up following a shoot off with Henry Arnold and Paul Lovick. Collins won a Toyota driving experience as part of his prize, along with a cash amount.

We would like to pay thanks to everyone associated with the competition and ATA Arms and Toyota, who generously donated the prizes.

Congratulations Guy. Now for the hat trick in 2018!
