DTL Weekend Preview

Bywell Shooting Ground in the heart of Northumberland will host the DTL Weekend for the sixth consecutive year from 9th – 11th June.

The Premier Plus ground was first established in 1980 and you can guarantee that the Henry family will once again present the ground immaculately and host a memorable Championship.

All eyes will be on Jim Doherty on the Saturday as he sets on his quest to win the prestigious Dougall Memorial Trophy for the fourth consecutive year. The historic competition is entering its 121st year, with the trophy first being presented in 1896, making it one of the oldest pieces of silverware in any sport.

Either side of the Dougall Memorial there is the Sponsored Down the Line on the Friday to kick the weekend off and the English Open DTL closes the event on the Sunday. Each competition will see the shooters take on 100 DTL targets.

Last year Shane Smith shot the only perfect score in the Sponsored DTL to take the honours. Michael Turner retained his English Open DTL crown after an exciting shoot off, so he’ll be aiming for a hat-trick of victories this time round.

The Henry family who run Bywell Shooting Ground are clearly looking forward to hosting the DTL Weekend again, as Anne Henry explains, “We are honoured to be hosting the DTL Weekend this year. It always creates a fantastic buzz around the ground with enthusiastic shooters. It is great to catch up with the new and the old faces from the DTL world who come to shoot the major CPSA Championships and we can’t wait to see this year’s DTL Weekend unfold.”

Eley Hawk is the headline sponsors for this year’s DTL Weekend, with Blaser focusing on the English Open. Eley are supporting the whole weekend with a financial contribution and product, 10,000 cartridges and cash - to be shared amongst all the Category winners in all three of the events. Blaser have also contributed cash to the English Open DTL prize fund.

Eley Hawk’s Marketing Manager, David Thompson comments, “Following on from a really strong DTL Weekend at Bywell last year, Eley Hawk are proud to be involved again with the CPSA and Bywell Shooting Ground in what is one of the oldest running competitions in the world. With three events all rolled into one weekend it really is the one event that all DTL shooters want to win.”

He adds, “As Eduardo Hernando, Managing Director of Eley Hawk states: We are proud to donate cartridge prizes and sponsor this event as it epitomises everything we stand for; long lived sportsmanship, consistency in shooting down the ages, the best in Down the Line shooting which we have distilled into the one cartridge that now leads and wins on the DTL shooting scene DTL Gold by Eley Hawk.”

Robert Sajitz, CEO at Blaser Sporting Ltd comments, “Blaser are proud to be sponsoring the English Open DTL at the DTL Weekend in June. We are looking forward with eager anticipation to see if Michael Turner can complete his hat-trick of victories in this competition – which would be a fantastic achievement.  It is a great opportunity for us to meet all the DTL shooters competing at Bywell over the three days and we are delighted to be contributing to an excellent prize fund for the English Open DTL. “

“Blaser will be sponsoring an extra prize for the highest scoring Blaser Shooter in the English Open event, where you could win an additional £500.  The only criteria is that you register yourself with the serial number of your Blaser shotgun to qualify, upon entering the event.”

There are still spaces available for the three competitions. Any CPSA members who wish to book on can do so online at https://championships.cpsa.co.uk/ or by calling HQ on 01483 485400.
