CPSA Awards Finalists: County Committee

County Committee of the Year, Sponsored by Zoli Shotguns

The County Committee of the Year Award is presented to the county committee that has ‘gone the extra mile’ and made positive contributions to the sport of clay shooting, from grassroots participation through to team management, growing and governing the sport while underpinning the core demands of a county committee.

Cheshire

The Cheshire CPSA Committee are very grateful to have been nominated for County Committee of the Year and would like to thank everyone who has supported our work and who have taken the time to vote for us.

During the past year the committee team have continued to work hard for its members and the CPSA to deliver its commitment to Win, Grow, have fun and be charitable. The team consists of individuals who give up many hours of their time to support the CPSA and its members in every way possible and who proactively encourage new people to join the CPSA at every available opportunity.

Committee members are involved in the West Midlands Clubman event and the Ladies Clay Shooting League, which has seen many new faces this year as well as some valuable coaching assistance from members of Staffordshire CPSA. Our shooters and fellow counties are kept informed, connected, and engaged by the continual growth and development of the website and social media platforms with great results.

The committee has also continued to raise hundreds of pounds for the Northwest Air Ambulance by holding events and raffles, this not only raises money for a worthy cause but also brings the shooters together.

Cornwall

The Cornwall Committee are delighted to have been nominated for this year’s award.

As a committee we have worked hard to set up policies for a clear and fair selection process using selection shoots held during the year. We enter teams in each category for all the South West Inter Counties. For many years our skeet and sporting teams have also competed in the national IC. Team members frequently travel hundreds of miles to compete. We will arrange at each event to shoot in team squads wearing our distinctive uniform. Many referees have remarked that our shirts are so distinctive, that we clearly enjoy competing and are also polite. In 2022 and 2023 we won the SW championship trophy for having the most SW champions. We are also tied first for the most IC team trophies in 2023. We are particularly proud of the number of juniors coming through with competition between them to qualify for team places being strong. 2 juniors have been accepted into the GB pathways for Olympic skeet and 1 has competed for England in trap. Next year we are planning a charity dinner to raise funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Lincolnshire

The Lincolnshire CPSA Committee are a dedicated bunch with just one common aim – to raise the profile of clay target shooting and get as many people as possible out on the range and pulling the trigger.  Our committee have a wealth of experience behind them with some committee members serving the county for over 20 years.  All that expertise is put to good use for the benefit of our existing members in providing a full calendar of events every year but also in providing many additional services which make all the difference both to our members and to the sport generally.

Lincolnshire are the only county that provides a county team skeet vest so that our teams compete as a professionally turned-out team.  The attraction of earning a “Lincolnshire Shooting Team” skeet vest means we have no shortage of applicants wanting to qualify for a Lincolnshire team so for many years we have always entered teams in both the Regional and National Intercounty shoots in all disciplines.

The committee work hard to showcase our sport to the public at large with our professionally run “clay lines” at country fairs in Lincolnshire.  We have been doing this now for 10 years and it has just grown and grown.  Our stand attracts a massive amount of interest from old and young alike, who are keen to try our sport with many people returning year after year to give it another go.  Staging these events is no small task so the committee are immensely grateful to those members who give up their own time to help out.

The team are always willing to support new initiatives as individual committee members introduce new concepts, like the launch and development of a .410 championship by Richard Gray and the expansion of Helice into the region by Donovan Jenkin.

Our media exposure is exceptionally well catered for with Chris Bone’s excellent Facebook page which provides humour as well as information as well as our constantly evolving website.  These reach an enormous amount of people which has, in turn, created interest from other media outlets and led to interviews on local radio and other independent platforms.

The charity, Prostate Cancer, is the main benefactor from the Memorial Shoot we hold each year.  This year was exceptionally lucrative raising £1,360 making the total raised for this charity nearly £6,000.

The Lincolnshire committee are delighted to be shortlisted for an award this year and thank all those who have nominated.
