British Shooting Grand Final 2017 Report

The inaugural British Shooting Shotgun Grand Final took place over the weekend (7th and 8th October) at Fauxdegla Shooting Ground.

Nearly 100 athletes travelled to Wales, where the best-of-the-best Skeet and Trap shooters competed for the prestigious titles.

Amber Hill was crowned Grand Final champion in the Women’s Skeet after a closely run competition with Elena Allen who took silver. Lara Dale won bronze.

Speaking after receiving her gold medal, Amber said, “It was a lot more like the international events that we shoot, having the bigger crowds and music playing and I think it’s a great idea for the younger shooters to see what eventually it’s like to go to a World Cup.”

In the Men’s Skeet, Ben Llewellin led from the front throughout. Ben shot 123 ex 125 in qualification, before going on to claim the title in the final, seeing off Freddie Killander in second and Drew Christie in third.

Kirstie Barr emerged victorious in the Olympic Trap, followed by Andrea Swatts and Rebecca Fergusson.

In Paratrap Steve Ling was crowned British Shooting Grand Final Champion, Alan Ritchie won silver and Mat Goodwin won bronze.

Aaron Heading put in a fantastic performance to win gold in the Men’s Olympic Trap. After qualification Aaron was three points off the lead, but a superb effort saw him take the title. Mike Wixey won silver and Matt Coward Holley – who only recently changed discipline from Double Trap to Trap – won bronze.

Following his victory Aaron said, “It’s so nice to finish well in 2017. It’s been a tough year and I’m delighted.”

He added, “This event has been one the best shoots I’ve ever been to in the UK. The music, the atmosphere and the people who have come to watch have been great and I’d like to so thank you so much to everyone who played a part.”
