Birmingham City Ladies Go Clay Shooting

Birmingham City Ladies Football Team attended a Clay Shooting day on Tuesday 12th September at Lea Martson Shooting Club as part of a team bonding exercise.

With instruction from Level 2 Coach Paul Dancer, along with the past two winners of the CPSA Coach of the Year, Linda Grayson and Mhairi-Ann Troup, the footballers and their coaching staff were divided into three teams.

The afternoon started brilliantly with good weather and once the ladies realised they could hit the clays, a very strong competitive streak appeared.

An array of targets including; rabbit, teal, going away, incomer, and a crossser were used to test their skills. All the stands at Lea Marston are covered, so there was no concerns about weather, and after some two hours of shooting the scores were in. And impressive they were, with all achieving over 50%.

Each team were awarded, gold, silver and bronze medals, with a single 'High Gun' trophy.

The response from the players was superb, with all the ladies saying they really enjoyed it, as they had never done anything like Clay Shooting as a 'team' before.

On a positive note for Paul, Linda and Mhairi-Ann; over half of the ladies said they wanted to come back for a 'proper' lesson.

Following the event, Paul said, "Hopefully this creates something for the future and we may see more retired sportsmen and women turn to Clay Shooting, as most tend to take up golf!"

Our thanks to Solware of Tamworth and Lea Marston Shooting Club for supporting the day, along with the coaches.
