Sep 24: Merseyside Sporting Championships – Catton Hall

Many thanks to Catton Hall Shooting Ground for hosting this year’s Merseyside Sporting Championships. It was a pleasure to shoot at our ‘local’ ground.

Numbers were well up on last year (three-fold to be exact) – a major improvement on turnout. There were even a number of shooters who have never shot Sporting before, but wanted to show their support for the County Committee and take part.

The weather was very pleasant all day, making for a steady course with plenty of variety. There was something for everyone.

Seniors Champion, with a very credible 90 ex 100, was Mick Shelton. The Colts Champion was James Southwood. Ladies Champion was Carol Ann McGovern (her first outing at Sporting). Veterans Champion was Chris Ellis.

Prizes included cartridges for all winners (donated by John Beswick from Station Garage), a Sprit of Liverpool Trophy for Mick and badges for everyone else.

County successes

I must also mention Mick Shelton’s success at the British Open Sportrap. He came third place in C Class overall.

Another worthy mention is for John Lucy, who recently made the English ABT team. On his first outing in Ireland for the Home International, he won Overall new cap for the best combined score over the two days.
