Disabled Shooter of the Year
(sponsored by Solware)

Nominees

Adrian Last Ben Woodham Mark Delf

I became paralysed in a Motorcross accident in 1990.

Clay shooting appealed and in 1996 helped co found the DSG.

A special year, the DSG celebrated its 25th   Anniversary with an Open Sporting shoot at Kibworth, where it had held its first shoot. I won High Gun sitting.

It’s 21 years since I shot my first Major registered Competition, from there on I have represented my Country on 9 occasions, winning 3 World and I European titles plus silver and bronze medals in FITASC Handisport.

I have won 2 World English Sporting and 2 World Sportrap titles. Plus, many English, British Sporting and Skeet titles too.

Started Refereeing in 2003 and am qualified in 6 different disciplines, refereeing the World English Sporting twice.

In 2017 I was voted Suffolk Sports Personality of the Year.

A fantastic start to 2021 winning C Class and disabled sitting at the English Open Sporting, beating 200 able bodied shooters which I have never achieved before. Having only shot at 185 clays in the past 6 months this came as a great shock, so much so I hadn’t even gone competition, (I have forgotten about the prize money now!).  I have a lovely trophy to hold for 12 months which has my name on it, plus the CPSA badge.

Competing in the World English Sporting and Sportrap and winning both, I went on to win the English Open Sportrap.  Then won the British Open English Sporting and finished with silver in the Sportrap.

I have won the triple in the English Sporting winning English, British and World titles, missing the triple in the Sportrap at the British with a silver medal.  Shot the English Open Skeet winning a silver medal.

In 2021 I am the only original member of the DSG remaining.

Firstly, Thank You for the nomination for Disabled Shooter of the Year and congratulations to the other nominees Adrian and Mark two very worthy nominees.

Having only ever shot one registered competition before 2021 With some encouragement from friends in the Disabled Shooters Group I threw myself into it this year and it’s been hard work, but I have really enjoyed it, trying new disciplines.

All the practice of last year and early this year really paid off. Taking second in Disabled Sitting at my first major competition at the English Open English Sporting was a great start to the year and big thank you to Tony Axcell for the push through the mud at Barbury.

I proudly shot my first ever straight round in skeet the week of the English Open and then on the day of the English Open shot two more straights. Being presented with the Shooters Trophy at Eriswell Lodge was a real highlight of the year for me and also adding an English Open and British Open English Skeet High Gun. The cherry on top was second place at the World Sports Trap.

I am perhaps proudest to be a part of the Disabled Shooters Group, this year particularly celebrating its 25th year, helping to bring new members into the sport as membership Secretary and to now being honoured to become their chairperson this year.

I have met some truly amazing people this year, from other Disabled Shooters, Abled bodied Shooters, ground staff and referees and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for all the encouragement and support this year!

My name is Marcus Delfinius Madeira Cake, commander of the broken Leggies and Armies of Northumberland, General of the K-80 Legions, loyal servant to the Supreme Express emperor Marcus Iddon. Father to children that always know best, husband to a shooting widow. And I will have my GB badge, in this life or the next.

I’m the loud biker bloke with stupid big tasteless chains on who lost a fight with a truck and took up “doofing” 6 years ago as apparently its safer than crashing motorbikes. (Who knew!?)

I’ve managed to win the odd county/regional title in DTL, FITASC, ALL ROUND and OT along the way and made the England Team at DTL and ABT and was lucky enough to win the Disabled Standing Sporting World Title this year.

I’m fortunate to be a sponsored shooter for Lyalvale Express and can often be seen around the country with my “Carer” Tommy “The Wisdom” Oliver shooting sporting, without whom I wouldn’t manage a fraction of the shoots i do.

We are the ones that look like Salvador Dali painted the hairy bikers with a wallpaper pasting brush.

While i take the process of shooting and improving seriously, after all progression in anything is vital to personal growth, i also try to remember that ultimately “we are simply standing in a field, shouting while waving two metal pipes, and trying to break flying tea plates with magic sprinkles, we ain’t changing the world”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people that have inspired me, helped me, and made my unplanned life detour into shooting a truly wonderful experience!

Roll on 2022!

(Mainly so i can stalk Richard Faulds some more…)
