Richard Faulds MBE earns pass to London
Richard Faulds MBE has just won the Sydney Double Trap World Cup ISSF event, 11 years on after winning the Olympic Gold at the same venue.
After shooting qualifying rounds of 46 47 & 48 ex 50, totalling 141 he was placed 2nd behind Australia's Russell Mark who shot a qualifying score of 142. The other finalists were Josh Richmond (USA) 140, Francesco D'Aniello (ITA) 140, Craig Trembath (AUS) 139 & Rachid Al-Athba (QAT) 139.
The final proved difficult with the light conditions making the target visibility inconsistent, but Richard kept his concentration, shooting 47 ex 50 totalling 188 to win him the Gold medal and the Quota place for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The other results are as follows.
Silver J. Richmond 186
Bronze F. D'Aniello 184
4th + 5th Tied R. Mark & C. Trembath 183
6th R. Al-Athba 182.
This is Richard’s 4th World Cup win over the years, but his 5th consecutive Olympic Quota place, starting with Atlanta 1996, aged just 19, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and now London 2012.
Richard was supported as always by his wife Tanya at the event, she plays a key role in everything from sports massage, psychology, right down to packing his shooting bag so all Richard needs to think about is shooting and keep bringing the Gold's home.
Next on the list for the Faulds family is the World English Sporting & Tripple Classic in Texas in April so this is a tremendous start to the year for them.
