London 2012 Games - Volunteers
Do you have what it takes to be a London 2012 Games delivery volunteer?

London 2012’s official Games-time Volunteer Programme will launch this summer.
Volunteering at the London 2012 Games will be a truly memorable, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for members of the Shooting community.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) will recruit volunteers from across the UK – from a range of communities and backgrounds. The selection process will be transparent, open and fair.
Should you be selected as a Games delivery volunteer, you will be at the heart of the Games, part of a 70,000-strong team, representing the UK and delivering services that are essential for a successful and inspirational event. You will have the opportunity to use and develop your skills and play a key role in one of the largest and most unforgettable events ever to be held in the UK.
Volunteer roles:
Up to 70,000 volunteers will be needed to help put on a truly spectacular Olympic and Paralympic Games. There will be two kinds of Games delivery volunteer –specialist and generalist:
- Specialist volunteers will have specific existing skills or qualifications that are needed for them to complete the role – for example, sport or medical training.
- Generalist volunteers will not need any special skills or qualifications and will receive all the necessary training. They might be given roles in areas such as spectator services, Olympic and Paralympic Village operations or uniform distribution.

Sport Info Team Member
|
To provide general assistance and information as the first point of contact and focus for the sport, with expert advice on the shooting sport to all enquirers.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of the sport and Olympic disciplines required.

Athlete Svcs Team Leader
|
To ensure the provision of a high quality Games time experience for all Olympic athletes at the Competition Venue.
· Experience of managing staff/volunteers in a pressurised environment

Athlete Svcs Team Member
|
Assist the Athlete Services Team Leader to provide a high quality Games time experience for all Olympic athletes at the Competition venue.
Empathy for the needs and behaviour of elite athletes and their support teams.

|
Field of Play Team Member
|
Responsibility to ensure that the access to, flows around and maintenance of the FOP are conducted in accordance with LOCOG and IF rules and regulations.
Experience of managing staff/volunteers in a pressurised environment.

|
IF Services Team Leader
|
To ensure that all IF work areas and lounges are maintained to an appropriately high standard for the duration of the Games. Serve as the focal point for IF requests during Games, sensitively and sensibly managing their needs
Experience of managing staff/volunteers in a pressurised environment.
Friendly and outgoing manner, good communication skills and problem solving mentality.

IF Services Team Member
|
Under the direction of the IF Services Team Leader, to ensure that all IF work areas and lounges are maintained to an appropriately high standard for the duration of the Games. To respond to IF queries punctually and positively during the course of the Games.

Technical Officials Team member
|
Assist the Technical Officials Team Leader to provide a high quality Games time experience for all Olympic Officials at the Competition.
Empathy for the needs and behaviour of officials and their duties.
|
|
Armouries Team Member
|
Provide and assist with the safe, secure and efficient management of all firearms within the Armoury at the Competition venue. Operate a logical storage system and adhere to security regulations. Provide an efficient and timely issue and return service.
Understanding of firearms and storage procedures essential. Strong empathy with athlete needs and working under pressure within in a strict functional environment. Security vetting and Section 5 handling required.

Customs Services Team member
|
Assist and provide expert advice and focal point for all firearms import and export enquiries from athletes and team officials. Act as interface and liaison with the Customs Service and facilitate efficient import and export of all firearms.
Knowledge and understanding of import/ export rules and regulations required.
Good communication and problem solving skills.

|
Gunsmiths Services Team Member
|
Provide assistance and liaise with arms manufacturer technicians from the shooting industry. Assist with their efficient delivery of services to athletes.
Knowledge and understanding of firearms and empathy with needs of both industry technicians and the athletes they serve.
|
|
Ammunition Sales Manager
|
Manage and coordinate ammunition sales and the efficient handling and accounting of their finances.
Good communication skills and understanding of cash handling and associated accounting procedures.
|
|
Print Distribution Runners
|
Assist with the efficient and timely distribution of all start lists, results and information required across the venue.
Fit and able enough to move swiftly around the venue and meet production and distribution deadlines in accordance within ISSF rules.
|
|
25m range Backing Target Changers
|
Assist under the direction of range NTOs with the timely changing of 25m pistol backing targets between relays.
Understanding of 25m range management, discipline and event procedures.
|
|
Scoreboard Operator
|
Responsible for operating Public scoreboards according to sport rules and regulations, and / or a given script or instructions. Knowledge of sport competition and PC graphics knowledge is advantageous.
|
|
Official Communication
|
Will be responsible for capturing, recording and entering official communication text throughout competition, according to the needs of the sport. A very good knowledge of sports competition is required, as well as familiarity with PCs.
|
Who can volunteer?
LOCOG aims to recruit volunteers who will bring passion, enthusiasm and energy to the Games, and who meet the following key criteria:
- Be 18 years old by 1 January 2012.
- Be available to volunteer for a minimum of 10 days at either, or both, of the Games.
- Be eligible to volunteer in the UK according to UK immigration laws. In other words:
- Have the right to live and work permanently in the UK; or
- Hold a valid passport or identity card from any country in the European Economic Area; or
- Be in the UK or coming to the UK to work in accordance with the UK Points Based System; or
- Be in the UK for another reason with a permission to remain in the UK that allows you to work as a volunteer; or
- Be providing specialist sports specific skills at the Games or have extensive previous Games experience and can meet the requirements for a sports visitor visa.
- Be able to attend a minimum of three training sessions prior to the Games.
- Agree to, and pass, certain security and background checks.
Why volunteer?
- The main benefit of volunteering is the chance to play an integral role in one of the most exciting events ever seen in the UK.
- The Games will provide a unique and inspirational setting for volunteers to gain experience and develop their skills.
Note that:
- London 2012 will provide volunteers with free meals during their shifts.
- Each volunteer will be given an official uniform to wear and will have the opportunity to keep their uniform as a souvenir of their experience and contribution to the Games.
- Volunteer travel arrangements are still being planned. Details of these will follow shortly.
- Accommodation will not be provided.
Key Dates of the volunteer recruitment process
Summer 2010 London 2012’s official Volunteer Programme launches. All applicants will be required to complete an application form.

November 2010 LOCOG will commence inviting short-listed applicants to a selection event.
January 2011- February 2012 Selection events take place.
October 2011 Offers will begin to be sent out to successful applicants.
February 2012 Orientation training takes place.
March 2012 Role-specific training begins.
April 2012 Distribution of uniforms and accreditation passes commences.
June 2012 Venue training begins.
