Somerset All Round County Championship 2006

Dennett’s "Triple" Delight

Cheddar Valley Trap and Skeet Club held the Somerset All Round County Championship shoot on Friday 15th of April. With the weather forecasters saying it was going to be bright and sunny the bank holiday weekend, conditions were looking good for the shooters wishing to gain there county places, but the weather men could have so easily got it wrong, with the early morning squads heading off on the layouts with one eye on the weather and another on the targets, but alas they got it right, with bright sun making an appearance the later part of the morning.

The first 4 of some 11 squads, entered the clubhouse after shooting their first layout, there seemed to be a good showing of Somerset shooters looking to do well, and there were a few straights on the SB, and skeet layouts, but the talk of the club house seemed to be about the pair of crossing targets on stand one of the sporting layout, that seemed to wreck many a good card. Mid way point and all was still up for grabs, with just 5 hits splitting a quartet of shooters.

Visiting shooters from as far and wide as Hampshire, Devon and Cornwall were sampling Cheddars fine targets, with Devon’s Andy Moon looking as if he was going to push Richard King and regular Somerset shooters Pete Dennett and John Bradnam, who is on the form of his life with his new Peratzi all the way to the finish.

With all Somerset’s shooters back into the clubhouse after a great day’s competition, it was up to Wesley to add up all the cards and see who the county champion was. But first the overall high gun was announced and this was Richard King with a fine 92, with Andy moon one target behind, but in third place with a score of 89 Pete "triple delight" Dennett, claimed the title once more, with this being his third year running, well done indeed, lets hope we have some more shooters pushing just as hard next year, with only 7 targets splitting our top five shooters, the inter-county shoot looks promising for 2006. Congratulations to all the new Somerset County members, and a big pat on the back for Somerset junior Joseph Cleal landing a fine place in the team.
