Colin Butler

East Midlands Region Director

As a keen sportsman for many years I was left at a dead end when an accident forced me to give up my playing days as a keen footballer and cricketer, but a close friend and a former County Chairman of Northants Glen Sentance introduced me to clay pigeon shooting, I joined the CPSA a few months later and now I am in my tenth year of membership – so the new boy to many.

I soon realised this was what I was going to throw myself into, Glen persuaded me to go onto the Northants committee and I have not stood still since. The following year I was elected to Vice Chairman and two years after Chairman a position I still hold to date, in that time I also undertook the role of Pull Magazine reporter and launched the first ever Northants website. Around then I started to attend Regional meetings as a county rep and was invited to take over the Regional website and write the Pull reports. Last year I was elected to the post of Regional Secretary again this is a post I still hold today.

Early last year I decided to put myself forward for the position of East Midlands Regional Director and was successful, I was invited to Board meetings by the Chairman Terry Bobbett prior to my term of office commencing and already I have gained invaluable knowledge and an insight into just how complex running an organisation such as ours is. But I relish the challenge of helping to make the CPSA a beneficial Association for all members whatever their status, whatever their chosen discipline.

I attend as many County and Regional shoots as possible so as to get out amongst the members as I think it is vitally important to be seen and to be listening to what members expect from their organisation.
I have shot all bar one of the disciplines the CPSA has to offer and I have represented my County on many occasions, the only exception being ZZ Helice but I mean to put that right this year at the East Midlands Championships, my favoured disciplines are English Skeet and English Sporting.
